'Black' (African Black Rhinoceros)

I have in mind a series of large paintings with colors as their title, but not neccesarily featuring that color, or an animal of that color. This is the first. I'm working on a Kangaroo for 'Red', & trying to figure out how to avoid a polar bear for white.(yes, I know black isn't a colour - stop being pedantic, I'm trying to write here!)

Blacks are the smaller of the two African Rhino species, but they are big enough. Just the way the earth shakes when they so much as snort puts me in absolute awe of these monstrous beasts. The Black Rhino isn't black, of course, but neither is the White Rhino white. It's name is a mispronounciation of the Afrikaans for 'wide', a reference to its wide mouth, used as a grazing tool. The Black has the hooked lip shown above which it uses to browse leaves. This & the huge neck hump of the White is the easiest way to tell the two apart.
