One of Australia's rarer ducks, The diminutive blue-bill is a member of the 'Stiff-tail' family of ducks whose members are distributed worldwide. As well as being small & uncommon, the blue-bill tends to be rather a skulker & as such is seldom seen. However the sight of the male's vivid blue bill & chestnut plumage makes finding one well worth the effort. This was a
special painting for me, as it won the first prize at the Queensland
Wildlife Artists Society annual exhibition, much to my shock. In fact
I only finished at the (constant) behest of my Mum, who rather liked
it.
