'El Tigre' (Bengal Tiger) |

This young Bengal Tiger was painted specifically for my nephew Matthew, who was born in 1997. The title refers to a nickname of golfer Tiger Woods, who was a favourite of my brother David, a golfing nut, when Matthew was born. He's 7 now, & can swing a club like Tiger already! (But I'm hoping he drops that & plays for Collingwood instead!) The year before I painted this, I was lucky enough to be allowed to meet Dreamworld's 6 recently arrived Bengals to get some reference shots. I walked onto their huge enclosure to have 6 pairs of eyes look at me like I was breakfast. It was one of the most unnerving & thrilling things I have done. This guy above actually had my left arm in his mouth at one stage. New underwear was required, but he didn't even leave a mark I could show off with!
