One
of the most spectacular birds on earth, Mandarin Ducks have been introduced
to many parts of the world, and these Asian birds are now a fairly common
sight on waterways in England & America. They are closely related
to the (also spectacular) Wood Duck of America & the combination
of brilliant colors & unusual feather formations in the tail &
head make them an unforgettable sight. The female (on the right in this
painting) lacks these features, but is a stylish girl in her own right,
preferring tasteful browns with just a flash of blue in the wing to
make her fashion statement.
