'Three' (Great Pied Hornbills) |

The title refers to the composition rather than the number of birds, although the idea of people searching the background for the third hornbill rather appealed. The painting is an exercise in triangles, and I think it was the first time I started with the compositional elements rather than the subject. I just started painting dirty great intersecting triangles in sepia paint & then found birds to fit. Happily, this picture was accepted into 'Birds in Art' 2004, in Wisconsin, USA.
