'Tronie'(Green Peafowl)

This one took a deceptively long time. An inordinate amount of which was spent on the background (although it doesn't look much in a photo). I wanted to get the feel of a Rembrandt portrait, which is where the title comes from. A 'tronie' was a type of generic portrait painted often by Rembrandt & his followers. They weren't meant to be of anyone in particular (though of course they were), they were just pictures of people, often in heroic or outlandish costume, a description which fits the Green Peafowl's plumage admirably. These birds are pure spectacle in breeding plumage, at least rivaling their more familiar blue cousins.
